17th Century Drumoak

What we now think of as Drumoak does not have a long history. This 17th century military survey map shows Drum Castle and its grounds (top).

It also shows the “Kirk of Drumoack”.  This is the old Kirk of Drumoak, which is at Dalmaik.

The River Dee runs from west to east along the lower part of this map.  The road shown just above it is the Old Deeside Road.

Bogton Farm is where Bogtown is shown. Cairnton is where Karntown is shown. Whitecroft may be where Mains of Drum now is.

The unnamed settlement, near the northwards bend of the Dee, is not modern Drumoak.
